The 20th Session of the Intergovernmental Group (IGG) on Meat and Dairy Products

FAO seeks to broaden participation in its Intergovernmental Group Session and associated events. The IGG Session is being convened under the provisions of Article V.6 of the FAO Constitution, and is convened every two years for all FAO Members interested in the production or consumption of, and trade in, meat and dairy products, and to official observers. The aim of the Session is to encourage debate and discussion on issues of importance to the world meat and dairy sectors. There is no registration fee, although participants are requested to register early.

The IGG Session is open to government delegates and official observers, and will be held Saturday, 19 June, 2004. The IGG will be accompanied by technical events which are open to all. These include a symposium entitled "Meeting International Standards Affecting the Livestock Sector: The Challenge for Developing Countries" on 17 June. A second symposium entitled "International Investment in Dairy Processing" will be held on 18 June. In addition, a workshop on school milk will follow the IGG Session on 19 June. Field trips to local meat and dairy facilities will be organized for Sunday 20 June.

The IGG Session and its accompanying technical events will be held directly following the 15th International Meat Congress, scheduled for 14-16 June 2004 in Winnipeg. The Congress is entitled "The World Meat Industry at a Crossroads" (http://www.worldmeatcongress-canada.com/#). It is organized by the Government of Canada in cooperation with the International Meat Secretariat and will also be open to IGG delegates. The Congress registration fee will be reduced for designated, pre-registered IGG delegates in order to facilitate their participation.
