Current Situation and Medium-Term Outlook for Tropical Fruits
This document provides an assessment of the current market situation and medium term projections to 2014 for tropical fruits. Statistical tables are annexed and a statistical compendium on production, imports, exports, consumption and prices is also available on the web (please see Tropical Fruits Compendium). The information used in this document was mainly compiled from the responses to a questionnaire on tropical fruits, supplemented by data from the FAO database, FAOSTAT. TFNet and the UPM Pilot Plant Course on Fruit Juice Processing
This course on Fruit Juice Processing is jointly organised by TFNet and the UPM Pilot Plant for would-be entrepreneurs. The pilot plant scale represents the first step and is an appropriate starting point for commercialisation. This course covers practical aspects of fruit juice processing, including familiarisation with all processing equipment in the pilot plant and hands-on step-by-step practical session in the preparation of fruit purees, juices and cordials. This course is divided into 2 modules: Module 1 deals with fruit processing and the session will be conducted entirely in the pilot plant. Participants have the option of continuing with Module 2 which deals with the business aspects in running a fruit processing small and medium enterprises (SME). [ more... ]

Avocado Market Generic Promotions: United States, Chile and South Africa
Producers and importers of Hass avocados, starting January 2003, have started to pay an initial assessment of US 2.5 cents per pound (5 cents per kg) on fresh Hass avocados produced in or imported into the United States for domestic consumption. A new programme, announced by the US Government's Federal Register in September 2002, established the Hass Avocado Promotion, Research and Information Order. The programme will finance research and generic promotion programmes for avocados. [ more... ]

Tropical Fruits Network (TFNet)
The International Tropical Fruits Network (TFNet) is an independent and self-financing global network set up under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). It is both intergovernmental and interinstitutional in nature and reports its activities to the Sub-group on the Tropical Fruits of the FAO Intergovernmental Groups of Bananas and on Tropical Fruits.
