Private ownership and secure property rights were raised as necessary to ensure long-term sustainable forestry, as these have been a main factor in retaining forests in Europe. Indigenous peoples rights was one of the issues discussed because a large number of Bank client countries have to address this issue. Other issues discussed were the potential threat of forest degradation due to the necessary increase in agricultural production in developing countries.
