Recommendations are as follows:
Once the fish pens are constructed (about May 1985), the pens should be quickly stocked with fish at about 20 fish per m2 for herbivorous fish; about 15 fish per m2 for plankton feeders, and about 10 fish per m2 for carnivorous fishes. Thus, depending on species cultured, up to 30 000 fingerlings must be made available for stocking the two pens for one test.
The Fish Farming Centre should study the two commercial scale (25 × 50 m) fish pens for a full year before additional pens are installed. This time period will permit examination of several of the long-term questions presented in the discussion above. The one year will give a strong indication of the value of fish pens in the Red Sea.
