6. HELMINTH INFECTIONS IN POULTRY AND DUCKS

Although locally poultry and duck breeding in developing countries is of importance the information with regard to helminthiasis in the literature survey is negligible.

The majority of the references stem from the Asiatic regions, and only a few is from the African and American regions.

Comparing the information available it is obvious that some species are mentioned in (nearly) all publications, namely :

referred to in publications 08304 (region 5), 00539 (region 6) 00554, 00881 and 00491 (region 7) and 06213 (region 8).

It is likely that other classic poultry helminth species such as Syngamus trachea, Tetrameres spp, Strongyloides spp are present in a number of countries and with more parasitological attention to worm infections in poultry it can be expected that they will appear in an up-dated data base.
