The Expert Consultation on Plant Nematode Problems and their Control in the Near East Region was held from 22 to 26 November 1992, in Karachi, Pakistan, and was jointly organized by the Near East Regional Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the National Nematological Research Centre (NNRC), University of Karachi. The objectives of the consultation were to review and discuss nematode problems and their control; assess facilities and capabilities in the region; review available technology on nematode diagnosis, detection and control; and plan appropriate measures for nematode control in the Near East. The consultation was attended by participants from Cyprus, Egypt, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq, Jordan, the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Pakistan, the Sudan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Invited speakers from Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States also attended.
