Intergovernmental fisheries agreements shall be consistent with Latvian fisheries economic interests and concern for protection of resources. (Art. 7)

LATVIA LEGISLATION
-Annual allowable catch is determined according to procedures set by Council of Ministers on the basis of recommendations provided by the International
Baltic Sea Fishery Living Resources. (Art. 9)
-Legal entities and physical persons shall exploit natural resources of Latvian waters after permission granted or licence issued by Council of Ministers. (Art. 11)
-Foreign legal and physical entities may carry out scientific and economic activities within national waters, upon receipt of licence. (Art. 13)
-Authorization for scientific and research activities is subject to conditions on prohibited use of explosives and harmful substances. (Art. 14)

AGREEMENTS
Fisheries Joint Venture Agreement signed on 1992 between a Latvian (LOGFFB) and Marshall Islands (LATSAR) Corporations
Agreement valid for 5 years and renewable automatically for new 5-year period until written notice given.
-Percentage interest 50% for each.
-LOGFFB vessels shall be re-registered through LATSAR.
-Contract for marketing of fishing products through LATSAR.
-Chartering of all vessels to LOGFFB by LATSAR upon re-registry of vessels which may fly Latvian flag as long as permitted by the new registry and lenders.
LEGISLATION
-Foreign entities carrying out scientific activities within Latvian EEZ shall communicate results, related reports, and any information requested to the relevant authorities. (Art. 21)
