TANZANIA LEGISLATION
-Export tax (royalty) of 5% ad valorem, is charged on every consignment.
-Fishing vessel registration and transfer fee shall be charged, according to the mode of fishing operation ownership, and level of investment in terms of shore based fish processing facilities which have been approved according to the Fishery Policy.
Registration fee:
1) Prawn trawlers: for vessels from 21 up to 150 GRT = (i) US$20 000: (ii) US$40 000;
2) Fin fish vessels:- for vessels between 11.m in length and 300.m = (i) from US$500 up to US$3 000; (i, from US$1 000 up to US$16 000;
- for vessels above 301 m = (i) US$4 000;
(i/) US$18 000;
3) Sport fishing vessels: (i) and (ii) = US$100.
-Fees for Fishing vessel licence shall be charged according to GRT ownership and level of investment (see supra).
Fishing vessel licence fee:
Trawler or vessel for ordinary fish:
-for vessel between 21 and 400 GRT = (i) from US$18.8/GRT up to US$62.5/GRT; (i/) from US$45/GRT up to US$150/GRT;
-for vessel above 401 GRT = (i) US$68.8; (ii) US$165;
Sport fishing vessel: (i) and (i/) = US$20.
Licence fee by species caught and fish products:
-for crustaceans fished by trawlers between 21-150 GRT = (i) from US$18.8/GRT up to US$31.3/GRT; (ii) from US$45.0/GRT up to US$75.0/GRT;
-for ordinary fin fish caught by: vessel between 21-400 GRT = (i) from US$9.4/GRT up to US$31.3; (ii) from US$22.5/GRT up to US$75.1;
- vessel above 400 GRT = (i) US$34.4/GRT;
(ii) US$82.3/GRT.
-for species and fish products listed (in form 6, part C, sched. 3) = (i) and (jr) US$420.
Note: (i)(ii) Distinction is made between individuals/companies
(i) with approved shore based fish processing facilities; (ii) without approved shore based fish processing facilities.

LEGISLATION
-Joint fishing ventures may be formed between foreign and local companies.
-Agreements should exist between Tanzanian Government and vessel owners or operators.
-Foreigners must comply with the Investment Promotion (Protection) Policy and must invest not less than US$ 250000.
LEGISLATION
Local fishing vessel
defined as fishing vessel registered or licensed under Fisheries Regulations which is wholly owned by one or more Tanzanian citizens or by a company having its principal place of business in Tanzania. This includes government fishing vessels.

TANZANIA LEGISLATION
-Same general requirements and licensing system as for national fishermen.
-Restrictions may be set regarding fishing methods, use of gear, nets, etc. closed seasons, minimum length or size of species (Sect. 18)
-Vessels to bear visible identification marks. (Sect. 6)
-All non-target species are to be landed for local use. (Fisheries (General) Regulations. 1973)
-Fishing trawlers above certain characteristics (25 m. length, 150 GRT and 500 HP) and fishnet or seine "kavogo" type of fishing are prohibited in Indian Ocean Tanzanian Territorial waters. (Schedule II)

-Foreign fishing vessels to operate in EEZ, i.e. beyond the 12 miles territorial sea.
-Restrictions applying to shrimp fishing operations:
- fishing time restricted;
- discarding of by catch at sea prohibited;
- compliance with zoning system, vessel grouping and grading scheme issued by fishery division;
- transhipment at sea prohibited.

LEGISLATION
-Every day by radio, captain, skippers to report on catch, positions and weather.
-Observers on board to communicate by radio, to the patrol unit, any violation of fishing conditions.
-Monthly reports on fishing data to be submitted to the Director of Fisheries.
-Observers to submit written report to the Director of Fisheries, at the end of every fishing trip.

* = Country is a part to the South Pacific FFA arrangement which stipulates that licences will not be issued to foreign fishing vessels unless those vessels are listed in good standing on the FFA - maintained regional register of fishing vessels .
