URUGUAY | LEGISLATION -12 mile area reserved for national vessels. (Art. 1) -Generally, vessels fishing for national industries and landing catch in Uruguayan ports must hold Uruguayan registration. (Art. 4) -In exceptional cases, due to the special nature of the fishing operations to be undertaken, on recommendation of INAPE (National Fishing Institute), foreign vessels may be authorized to fish for a limited period (up to five years); such authorization is revocable. (Art. 14) -Foreign vessels are subject to laws and conservation measures. -Permits issued to foreign vessels must be recorded in special INAPE register. (Art. 8) -It may be required, as a licence condition, that all catch be landed and totally or partially processed in Uruguay. -Transhipment of catch in port or zone is prohibited, except for export, in which case transhipment must be in port and under supervision of authorities.
