ForewordThe Commodity Market Review (CMR) is FAO's annual publication on food and agricultural commodities and trade. The Review is presented in two parts. Part I provides a synthesis of the key developments in agricultural commodity markets including the value of export earnings derived from agricultural commodities, import expenditures by developing countries for staple foods and commodity prices. Factors influencing commodity markets, such as the global economic outlook and developments in international trade policy are also reviewed. This Review includes a summary of recent development and policy issues relating to the new round of WTO negotiations on agriculture. Part II reviews the current world market situation and short-term outlook for 21 individual food and agricultural commodities or commodity groups. These reviews focus on current market developments and draw on the extensive and detailed commodity data systems and analysis available from FAO. Additional information on these commodities may be obtained from the individual commodity specialists listed in this publication who regularly monitor market developments to improve transparency and ensure a steady and objective flow of information world-wide. FAO also disseminates electronically both the CMR and the more detailed individual commodity market reviews and related studies. These are made available on the FAO Web page, www.fao.org (under Economics, Commodities and Trade). Paola
