Mangrove swamps are poorly represented on Guam; many have been destroyed or degraded by dredging. Where they do occur, only a few of the typical western Pacific mangrove species are represented. Among these: Avicennia marina var. alba, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Heritiera littoralis, Hibiscus tiliaceus, Lumnitzera littorea, Nypa fruticans, Rhizophora mucronata, Xylocarpus moluccensis and the fern Acrostichum aureum. Swamps dominated by Nypa fruticans palms are not very well represented.
