INTRODUCTION - PROCEDURE OF THE SESSION

INTRODUCTION

1. The Hundred and Eighth Session of the Council was held in Rome from 5 to 14 June 1995 under the Chairmanship of José Ramôn Lopez Portillo, Independent Chairman of the Council.

ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA AND TIMETABLE¹

2. The Council noted the Statement of Competence and Voting Rights submitted by the European Community and adopted die Agenda and Timetable for the session. The Agenda is given in Appendix A to this Report.

ELECTION OF THREE VICE-CHAIRMEN AND DESIGNATION OF THE CHAIRMAN AND
MEMBERS OF THE DRAFTING COMMITTEE²

3. The Council elected three Vice-Chairmen for its Session: Ms Melinda Kimble (United States of America), Salah Hamdi (Tunisia) and Juan Nuiry Sanchez (Cuba).

4. The Council elected Ms Ileana Di Giovan Battista (Argentina) as Chairman of the Drafting Committee with the following membership: Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Chile, China, Congo/Egypt, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Japan, Norway, Slovakia, Uganda and United States of America.

5. The Director-General delivered his statement to the Council. The full text of this statement is given in Appendix D to this Report.
