AGREEMENTS
Protocol of Fishing Agreement between Mauritius and EEC, valid for the period 1 December 1993 to 30 November 1996
-
Financial compensation of ECU 975 000, payable in three annual instalments covering a catch weight of 6 000t./year in the case of tuna fishing; compensation increased by ECU 50 for each additional tonne of tuna caught.
-Contribution of ECU 380 000 for financing of scientific and technical programmes. -Licence fees for tuna vessels: (a) for tuna seiners = lump sum of ECU 1 000/year/vessel (equivalent to fee for 50t./year); (b) for small trollers and surface longliners = ECU 20/t. (licence issued after advance payment of lump sum of ECU 500/year/vessel (equivalent to fee for 25t./year). Licence fee for other vessels = ECU 60/GRT pro rata temporis.

MAURITIUS LEGISLATION
-Licence conditions may include specifications regarding target species, size, weight of fish, etc; the vessel; fishing gear and fishing methods and areas and amounts to be fished; closed seasons; requirement of local landing and processing catch; training and employment of nationals.

-Licence to foreign non-EEC longliners includes obligation of local landing of their catch in Port Louis.

AGREEMENTS

-Fishing possibilities set as follows:
- for ocean-going tuna seiners, licences for 20 vessels;
- for liners, tuna trollers and surface longliners excepted, licences for 100 GRT/month on annual average;
-Fishing licence may also be granted for tuna trollers and surface tuna longliners.
-Licence issued to shipowner for one designated vessel and delivered to EEC local representative by Mauritian authorities.
-Licence for tuna vessels valid for one year renewable; for liners fishing other species valid for 3, 6 or 12 months.
-Vessels above 50 GRT shall, at the request of Mauritian authorities, take an observer on board to be supplied with all facilities.
-Tuna seiners, tuna trollers and surface longliners may fish beyond the 12 mile zone of Mauritian waters.

AGREEMENTS
Protocol of Fishing Agreement between Mauritius and EEC, valid for the period 1 December 1993 to 30 November 1996

-Vessels above 50 GRT shall communicate, when entering and leaving Mauritian waters and, every 3 days during fishing operations, to a determined radio station or by fax, their position and the volume of catch on board.
-Captain shall complete fishing report form indicating the date, vessel's position and quantity and species of fish caught.
-Tuna vessels shall also provide number of seine sets and the quantity of tuna caught per species.

* = Country is a part to the South Pacific FFA arrangement which stipulates that licences will not be issued to foreign fishing vessels unless those vessels are listed in good standing on the FFA - maintained regional register of fishing vessels .
