It was founded in 1945 to raise nutrition and living standards through improved agricultural production and rural development. Its core strategies include contributing to the eradication of food insecurity and rural poverty; developing policy and regulatory frameworks for food, agriculture, forestry and fisheries; creating sustainable increases in the availability of food and agricultural products; supporting conservation and the sustainable use of natural resources; and improving decision-making through the provision of information.
