ANIMAL GENETIC RESOURCES

We are looking for young, dynamic, highly motivated individuals with an BSc or and MSc in animal production, animal breeding or a related field, very good knowledge of English (good knowledge of French and/or Spanish would be an asset), good analytical and writing skills and advanced knowledge of Windows Office applications, in particular MS Excel.

Duration: 6-12 months

Description of work: The work of the Animal Genetic Resources Branch of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is aimed at assisting countries in the implementation of the Global Plan of Action for Animal Genetic Resources. An intense 7 year process (2000-2007) resulted in the first report on The State of the World's Animal Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (see http://www.fao.org/docrep/010/a1250e/a1250e00.htm). In April 2013, the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (www.fao.org/nr/cgrfa/) requested FAO to prepare an update of this report. The second report will be published in draft form in October 2014 and will consequently being finalized based on comments received from member countries.
We are looking for an intern to assist us over a period of 6 months or more with the finalization of the second report and the preparation of the launch of this flagship publication.

Volunteering

Animal Feed and Feeding

We are looking for young, dynamic, highly motivated individuals from the field of animal sciences

Duration: Up to 6 months

We provide: An interactive, intellectually stimulating multi-cultural environment to work on the role of feed and feeding in food security, environment and bioenergy. FAO also provides ample opportunities to learn from a number of ongoing conferences, seminars, meetings, workshops, group discussions related to: food security challenges facing the world; and efforts being made at technical, institutional, governance and policy levels to enhance food security and eradicate poverty and hunger.

Financial assistance: The candidate will work under the Volunteer Programme. Those who have secured or intend to secure financial support from other organizations may only apply.
