Situation Reports
The EuFMD Commission currently maintains a database on FMD occurrence complied from officially notified information to FAO, OIE and other sources, such as the FAO/OIE World Reference Laboratory for FMD. The database information is used to compile an FMD Situation Overview for presentation to the Sessions of the Commission which occur at approximately 6 monthly intervals. These FMD Situation Overviews are published online following each Session (link). The emphasis in the Overviews is on the FMD situation in regions of the world which constitute a recognised higher level of risk because of geographical proximity to EuFMD members, such as the near-east. A Review of the recent molecular and antigenic characterisation of virus isolates is usually presented in the Session Reports, following the Overviews.
In future because of the multiple potential sources of origin of risk materials for entry of infection into EuFMD member states, greater emphasis will be placed in provision of baseline FMD data for countries which are not free of FMD, and of changes in incidence that might represent an increased risk for third countries. The EuFMD database will incorporate the reported outbreaks by month and plans to make this available through the website from mid-2003.
