 | Abstract 327 Utilization of bananas by ruminants. II. Utilization of bananas for milk production, a comparison with maize and a comparison of different forms (fresh, ensiled, dehydrated).Geoffroy,-F Station de Recherches Zootechniques, INRA, 97170 Petit-Bourg, Guadeloupe. Revue-d'Elevage-etde-MedecineVeterinairedes-Pays-Tropicau . 1985, 38: 1, 86-91; 15 ref. In 2 separate experiments, mountain goats were fed diets of Digitaria decumbens together with green, ensiled or dehydrated bananas. Milk production by goats fed maize flour, maize flour + ensiled bananas or ensiled bananas alone did not differ significantly. Herbage intake was markedly lower with diets of green or ensiled bananas than with banana flour, maize or a maize-banana mixture, with an associated decrease in total DM intake. Utilization of fresh green or ensiled bananas was considered preferable to dehydrated bananas due to lower costs. This abstract relates to the following species:Musa x
