The components of the SIPSA

1. A tool to manage and integrate the databases of the the SIPSA at regional, national and local level

The acquisiation and collection of data is taken over at the national level by the different member organisations of the National Coordination Committee (CNC for Comités Nationaux de Coordination). The databases are centralised at the CNC and then sent up to the Regional Technical Coordination Committee (CTR for Comité de Coordination Technique Régionale). The acquired and collected data are assigned to the 14 thematic areas. Each country adapts their logical model according to the databases that can be mobilised.

A database management system (SGBD) is applied to stock and organize the data and documents of the SIPSA. Each focal point at the national level is provided with a database management unit (CGND) functioning at the centre of the CNC. In the same way a regional database management unit (CGRD) is provided to the CTR.

The CGRD has the function to help the CNC installing the CGND and to process and analyse their data.

2. A web-based interface for data query of the SIPSA

The database management system (SGBD) allows the user both to import and export databases as well as to modify the data in the databases. The interface is intended for the use by the SIPSA team members. Being internet-based it is also accessible to a wider range of user groups. However, access to the web-based database is regulated by different user rights. The interface allows data query according to selected geographical unit, time frame, theme and type of data/information.

3. Information products responding to the specified demand of different user groups

The SIPSA produces and distributes information products, which are designed to specifically respond to the demand of different user groups. Building on the databases and the information products prepared by the CNC as well as other information products the CTR produces information products such as maps, information sheets, bulletins, and web pages and elaborates regional training material. The distribution of these materials is assured by the CNC at the national level.
