The DFID-funded ‘Pro-Poor Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) Risk Reduction Research Project aims to provide science-based support to decision makers in their difficult task of designing and implementing pro-poor HPAI control measures at national and international levels. These control measures should not only be cost-effective and efficient in reducing disease risk, but also protect and perhaps even enhance livelihoods, particularly those of smallholder poultry producers, who represent the majority of poultry keepers in developing countries. »Read more

Guide to the inclusion of livestock into PRSPs
Bamako, Mali – 8-14 June 2008

Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSPs) outline development strategies aimed at fostering pro-poor economic growth through a combination of core principles, which typically include sound macroeconomic management, institutional reforms and a focus on increased social sector spending. In particular, PRSPs are expected to identify priority public actions over a three-year horizon, including the overall public expenditure programme and its allocation among key areas. It follows that sectors which are not included in PRSPs are likely to receive limited policy attention and public funds. »Read more

Towards the inclusion of livestock in PRSPs
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 20-24 May 2008

PPLPI co-organised and participated in the IGAD-LPI ‘PRSP Training Workshop’, which was held in Addis Ababa on 20-24 May 2008. The workshop was attended by over twenty participants representing of a variety of institutions, including the IGAD-LPI National Technical Focal Points. These are representatives of the IGAD member states, appointed by their respective governments, and perform the technical liaison function between IGAD-LPI and national authorities and carry out project activities in their respective countries. »Read more
