Reporting system
The reporting system for the implementation of the Global Plan of Action encompasses two elements: activities undertaken and outcome in terms of status of animal genetic resources diversity.
Information on activities undertaken as part of the implementaion of the Global Plan of Action is obtained from a number of sources in accordance with an agreed timetable. National governments provide country progress reports every four years, based on a standard questionnaire prepared for the purpose. Regional Focal Points for Animal Genetic Resources (where established) also have the opportunity to provide reports on their activities. International governmental and non-governmental organizations also provide information on their relevant activities via a questionnaire every 2 years. FAO prepares reports on its activities related to the Global Plan of Action every two years. Finally, information from countries, regions and international organizations is drawn together in synthesis progress reports prepared by FAO every four years. Information on the status and trends of animal genetic resources themselves is made available in reports prepared by FAO every two years using data from the Domestic Animal Diversity Information System (DAD-IS).
