FAO is the largest specialized agency in the United Nations system. It was founded in October 1945 with a mandate to raise levels of nutrition and standards of living, to improve agricultural productivity, and to better the condition of rural populations. More about FAO.
TeleFood was born in the wake of the 1996 World Food
Summit. Here, world leaders from 186 countries committed themselves
to the ongoing fight against hunger. A follow-up meeting,World Food
Summit: five years later, will be held at FAO headquarters in Rome
from 10-13 June 2002. Participants will review progress made towards
the goal of the 1996 World Food Summit - to reduce the number of
hungry people by half by 2015 - and consider ways to accelerate
the process. More
