Export prices of wheat and maize in November remained stable but at
high levels. International rice prices followed mixed trends according to
origin but were generally lower than a year earlier.
In wheat consuming countries of the CIS, Latin America and the
Caribbean, Asia and Africa, domestic prices of wheat and wheat flour
were at record or close to record levels in November, supported by high
prices in international and regional export markets.
Prices of maize in Southern Africa increased sharply in Mozambique
and Malawi where they were generally 40 to 100 percent higher than a
year earlier. In Eastern and Western Africa, coarse grain prices in November
were still at high levels in several markets, despite declining from previous
peaks with the main 2012 cereal harvests.
