New Co-Chair of the Land Cover
Implementation Team
Dr Chris Schmullius will be the new Co-Chair of the
Land Cover Implementation Team with Dr Dave Skole. She
will be replacing Iwan Gunawan, who will remain associated
with GOFC/GOLD through the Scientific & Technical
Board (STB).

New Executive Director
Bryan Lee will be taking an early retirement from the
Canadian Forest Service and will therefore be stepping
down as Executive Director of GOFC/GOLD. A successor
is being identified from within the Canadian Forest
Service.

TEMS module on FAO Forest Rsources
Assessment
FAO Forest Resources Assessment (FRA) data for 1980,
1990 and 2000 (including matrices, graphs and raster
maps) are now available on TEMS at the pan tropical,
regional, sub-regional and sampling unit levels. The
land cover classification and a forest cover change
variable sheet provide more detailed information related
to the methodology and process used to undertake the
survey. Links to the FRA homepage and the FRA 2000 full
report are available in the links section.

New GOFC-GOLD executive director
GTOS
is pleased to announce that GOFC-GOLD has a new Executive
Director, Mr. Bryan Lee, a research manager at the Natural
Resources Canada, Canadian Forest Service, where the
new GOFC-GOLD secretariat will be based. Mr. Lee currently
manages programmes in fire management systems, landscape
management and international programmes.
The
primary role of the GOFC-GOLD Executive Director is
to maintain external and internal communication, liaise
with collaborating partners, facilitate support for
activities of the three implementation teams, and arrange
annual meetings of the scientific and technical board.
Support for this position is provided by the Canadian
Space Agency and the Canadian Forest Service.
