GEO-VI: Sixth Plenary Session of the Group on Earth Observations
Last updated 2 December 2009

Dates

17-18 November 2009

The Global Observing Systems, GCOS, GOOS and GTOS, had a joint exhibition at the GEO VI Plenary held in Washington DC.

Some 80 nations, the European Commission and 56 international organizations are coordinating their Earth observation assets and strategies through GEO. They are sharing and interlinking their systems for tracking global trends in carbon levels, climate change, biodiversity loss, deforestation, water resources, ocean temperatures and other critical indicators of planetary health and human well-being.

The GEO Plenary, attended by hundreds of scientists and government delegates, was an excellent showcase for GCOS, GOOS and GTOS activities on observing systems, and particularly for providing a joint platform on standards for in situ and remote observations of Climate, Oceans and the Terrestrial domain.
