3rd GTOS international coastal workshop
Last updated 11 September 2003

19-22 October 2003

Venue and date

The workshop will take place from 19-22 October 2003 at La Selva Biological Station, Costa Rica. Participants are requested to arrive in San José, Costa Rica, on 18 October.

The initiative is part of a joint effort being undertaken by GTOS and the US National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), aimed at improving the availability and access to long-term coastal data.

Workshop objectives

The main workshop objectives are:

1. Review and assess the Coastal GTOS implementation plan for consideration by the international community and its submission to potential donors. We should have a rough draft available for the meeting and will allow time for comments, corrections, etc.

2. Confirmation and prioritization of initial products of Coastal GTOS, based on proposals from the last meeting and intersession activities.

3. Continued incorporation of the Driver, Pressure, State, Impact and Response (DPSIR) framework and others into the observing system strategy to ensure inclusion of socio-economic issues within the programme.

4. Development of strategies for funding of initial activities.

5. Further evaluation of, and contribution to, the Integrated Global Observing Strategy (IGOS) theme for the coast.

Deadlines

Could you please inform the GTOS Secretariat by 10 September 2003 on your availability to attend the workshop. You should also indicate if you would require support for the cost of travel and/or accommodation. Due to limited funding it is requested that participants with access to their own resources should consider using these to participate. However every effort will be made to support those scientists who require support.
