GTOS AND GLCN SIDE EVENT AT UNCCD-CRIC-3

The GTOS and the GLCN Secretariats have the pleasure to announce that they will co-host an official side-event at the 3rd session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC-3) of the United Nation Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Bonn, Germany.

The side-event “GTOS and GLCN: how can we help in reporting from your country?” will take place in the meeting room adjacent to the Restaurant at the International Congress Centre Bundeshaus from 13:00 to 14:00 on 5 May 2005. This will be an opportunity for the international community to have an overview on GTOS and GLCN (including Africover) products and services which can be utilised by the UNCCD Parties in order to report to, as well as to comply with, the Convention.

The agenda of the side-event also includes an overview of different perspectives regarding the role of GTOS and GLCN in assisting Parties within the domain of terrestrial observations to further understand mechanisms of land degradation and desertification. In particular, the perspective of one of the co-sponsoring organisations (UNEP) as well as that of a donor country (Italy) will be presented together with the point of view of the scientific community.

Informative material on GTOS and GLCN will be available for the participants and the GTOS and GLCN Staff will be available to answer more specific queries after the presentations. Please note that the working language of the side-event will be English.
