Gender Roles in Peanut Sector for Household Food Security: A Technical

The RAPS WID Programme in collaboration with USAID Peanut Collaborative research Support Program and Kasesart University University organized a technical seminar on "Gender Roles in Peanut Sector for Household Food Security," in June 1998. Participants were from Bangldesh, Cambodia, China PR, India, Lao PDR, The Republic of Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand and Nepal. The resource paper was presented by a Women Agronomist from International Center for Research in Arid and Semi-arid Crops Women extensions specialist from the agriculture training institute, department of Agriculture, The Philippines and Scientists from the Kasetsart Agricultural and Agro-Industrial Product Improvement Institute, Thailand. The country reports and discussions illustrated the extensive and intensive roles of women in peanut production, seed selection and management and peanut post harvest and informal peanut product marketing. The recommendations generated focussed on participatory research with women in technology development and peanut technology transfer for income generation among women to improve household resource base.
