CONVENTIONS, AGREEMENTS AND TREATIES
DEPOSITED WITH FAO

Under the provisions of Article XIV of the FAO Constitution, the Conference may “approve and submit to Member Nations conventions or agreements concerning questions relating to food and agriculture...” and the Council may “approve and submit to Member Nations agreements concerning questions relating to food and agriculture which are of particular interest to Member Nations of geographical areas specified in such agreements...”.

At present, 16 conventions or agreements approved under the provisions of Article XIV of the FAO Constitution are in force. Among these, the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture provides in its Article 15 that the Contracting Parties  (i) recognize the importance of the ex situ collections of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture held by the International Agricultural Research Centres of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research, and other International Institutions; and (ii) call upon the International Agricultural Research Centres to sign agreements with the Governing Body of the Treaty with regard to such ex situ collections. At present, 15 agreements have been signed.
 
The conventions and agreements concluded under Article XIV of the FAO Constitution and the 19 treaties concluded outside the framework of FAO in respect of which the Director-General exercises depositary functions are listed in chronological order according to the dates on which they were concluded.
