Mountain dwellers spend hours every day gathering wood for cooking and heating. Mountain communities depend on wood for fuel and food preparation. But, in the Andes, the search for fuelwood, animal grazing and marginal agriculture are main causes of mountain forest fragmentation, degradation and loss.
