Women play a major role in household animal-production enterprises. They tend to have the primary responsibility for taking care of small animals and ruminants. Although men are often the owners (and sellers) of large livestock, women perform most of the household labour devoted to caring for them - herding, providing water and feed, cleaning stalls and milking.
