Worldwide more than 60 percent of the one billion young people between the ages of 15 and 24 are economically active, contributing directly to their own and their families' food security by growing food or earning an income. Youth almost everywhere, however, face far more difficulties than adults in finding and keeping jobs. Unemployment rates among youth are typically two to four times higher than the national average. Rates as high as 30 percent are common both in developed and undeveloped countries.
