Rurality in motion in West Africa

In collaboration with the Sahel and West Africa Club, which is linked to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), FAO has prepared a document on "Rurality in motion in West Africa" which presents and analyzes a series of indicators on rural development in this region and indicates recent evolutions related to rural development policies and the involvement of rural organisations.

This document has been prepared within the framework of the follow-up to the International Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ICARRD) which took place from 7 to 10 March 2006 in Porto Alegre, Brazil and, in particular, to one session of the conference which specifically addressed « Indicators and frameworks for the monitoring of agrarian reform and rural development ». It will also serve as a basis for the preparation of a section of the "Atlas of Regional Integration in West Africa", a joint initiative currently developed by the Sahel and West Africa Club and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
