Between 2009 and 2011, IFAD and FAO implemented a joint grant programme to support and promote regional knowledge sharing and capacity building for gender analysis, and for promoting women’s participation and empowerment in rural development work. The grant funded participatory research and capacity building on gender issues in relation to specific themes, training for rural women and events or study tours bringing people together to share their knowledge and experience.
At the end of the grant FAO and IFAD have pulled together some of the learning into briefings, with key messages for policy and practice.
This briefing shares some of the lessons learned on rural organisations supporting women's participation in the value chain, on Women-only farmers’ organizations amd on the effective promotion of equal participation in an organisation’s management, activities and benefits.
