DetailsAbstract: This 9-page article focuses on participatory learning and communication in a pluralist environment and characterises several approaches based on how they address power and policy issues and how they integrate other learning and participatory research tools. Thus, in relation to joint forest mangement, the author argues that from a communication point of view it is the exploring of learning opportunities that emerge through new relationships that is significant; it affects negotiation processes, through the use of stakeholder analysis as a facilitation tool to bring people together. There are several boxes that illustrate communication for development experiences, and a typology of participation is provided in table form. Bibliography included.
