Clarification on Multilateral Trade Negotiations in Agriculture

In order to discuss the contents of the Doha Round and over technical aspects present in trade negotiations, the FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, together with the Commodities and Trade Division of Headquarters, carried out a Clarification Workshop to analyze the on-going agricultural agreements, under the umbrella of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The seminar contributed with the elaboration of regional, sub-regional and national trade strategies, and enlightened on the key points to assure the benefits at the moment of establishing international trade relations.

During the event there was a great exchange of experiences.Different points of view that agreed to the need of association and the creation of groupings at the time of starting trade negotiations, in order to accomplish better multilateral agreements.

The inauguration of the Workshop was in charge of the FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean, Mr. Gustavo Gordillo, and the Executive Secretary of CEPAL, Mr. Jose Luis Machinea, who enhanced the importance of the event that counted with the participation of representatives from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
