Hunger, the first barrier to development “The state in Latin America and the Caribbean”
Santiago, Chile, 22 November 2005.- Six million children die every year due to hunger and malnutrition warned today the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations at the launching of its last annual report on the State of Food Insecurity in the World (SOFI 2005).

Rural Public Expenditure: More Efficiency is needed
Santiago, Chile, 21 November 2005.- The severity of rural poverty in Latin America and the Caribbean puts in doubt many of the measures and policies that are designed and implemented in the field. The governments need to be more efficient in the resources they assign to these zones, in order to achieve a faster and everlasting development.

FAO and IICA discuss joint work programme
San José, 26 October (IICA): “We have much to gain and much to loose if we do not work together” remarked the FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean, Gustavo Gordillo, while analyzing on 26 October the future of the relationship between the United Nations agency and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).
