FAO provided support to the economic groups of the region in the preparation of their Food Security Strategies, which were later discussed and approved in parallel events organized on occasion of the World Food Summit: five years later. The strategies prepared consider the establishment of an alliance between all the organizations involved in hunger reduction and include the different facets of food security at national, local and household levels. They focus in production and food trade and in the access to them, but are furthermore linked to the programs and activities relative to nutrition, health, education and other connected sectors. They determine the investment needs, institutional reform and adjustment of policies, and include a strategy of resource mobilization. The following strategies were developed:
