People’s Participation
Search tools, approaches and methods related to People’s Participation
People's participation is an essential requisite for SARD. The participation website provides some proven tools, approaches and methods to promote social inclusion and people's leadership of their own development process.
Sustainable Rural Livelihoods
The Agricultural Management, Marketing and Finance Service of FAO publishes a wide range of training materials and tools to help small farmers improve their livelihoods sustainably. An example is the video "Horticultural Marketing - Extension Techniques", which is now available in VCD format. It can be used by extension workers and NGO staff on their computers, without having to find a VCR and television. It is available free of charge for requests from developing countries or countries in transition. Request a copy by sending an email to AGS-Registry@fao.org.
Natural Resource Management
Training Modules on Conservation Agriculture
The purpose of these training modules is to support the promotion of Conservation Agriculture at community level. The modules provide practical information about the different principles of Conservation Agriculture.
Database of policy-related documentation
As an initial step to start the analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of existing mountain policies related to SARD, a questionnaire was sent out to the members of the SARD-M Project and Mountain Partnership at the end of 2004, in order to collect relevant documentation (policy studies, partners’ experiences, case studies, etc.) concerning social, economic, environmental and institutional policies for sustainable agriculture and rural development in mountain regions. With the information that has been collected thus far, the SARD-M project team has developed this database that will allow the project to know what has happened and been happening in terms of mountain policies related to SARD in various parts of the world. This database will be continually updated throughout the life of the project and complement the activities of the Policy and Law Initiative of the Mountain Partnership.
Database of organizations, programmes and projects
The SARD-M Project has also implemented a database of organizations, programmes and projects involved at the national, regional or international levels on policies pertaining to sustainable agriculture and rural development in mountain regions. A particular focus has been placed on those working on policies, institutions and governance related aspects of SARD-M issues because these are the main objectives of the project and essential factors that can contribute towards the amelioration of mountain populations’ livelihoods.
