Homenaje a Dr Alexander Daniel

21 Diciembre 2005. Maharashtra, India. La Iniciativa SARD anuncia con tristeza el fallecimiento de Dr. Alexander Daniel, un participante de la Iniciativa SARD que se dedicó a la protección del medio ambiente, la agricultura orgánica y al desarrollo rural. El Instituto para el Desarrollo Rural Integrado, fundado en 1987, continua trabajando para lograr las metas del Dr. Daniel de traer prosperidad a India a través del desarrollo de las comunidades rurales y la protección del medio ambiente.

Asian Ngo Coalition Training Programme - Sustainable Agriculture: A Viable Alternative for Resource Poor Farmers

6-25 November 2005, Quezon City, Philippines. This 3-week training programme, organized by Asian NGO Coalition for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ANGOC) covered topics such as issues and trends facing agriculture; sustainable agriculture concepts, principles, practices and models; policy issues and tools for mainstreaming sustainable agriculture; marketing and certification; and field exposure to Philippine rural communities practicing sustainable agriculture.. This was the second module of a three-year series on “Building Capacities of Asian NGOs in Poverty Eradication through Community Action,” organized with major funding support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Interested parties from non-government organizations, farmers’ groups and government agencies attended.

Taller sobre Buenas Prácticas Agrícolas, realizado por la Iniciativa ADRS

2 Noviembre 2005. Roma, Italia. Como parte del Simposio sobre/titulado Oportunidad de Aprendizaje Internacional organizado por la Asociación Internacional de Sistemas Agrícolas que tuvo lugar en Roma(durante cuatro días), la Iniciativa ADRS organizó un taller sobre las Buenas Practicas. Más de 60 participantes trabajaron en grupos para discutir las cuestiones, las restricciones y las soluciones del proceso de identificación, evaluación, difusión e intercambio de las buenas prácticas. Los resultados de estas discusiones serán pronto publicadas en esta página web y además serán usadas para alimentar el proceso de selección y diseminación de las Buenas Practicas a través de un Servicio de Recursos e Información.

Linking Local Learners Workshop

30 October 2005, Rome Italy. In the course of the IFSA Global Learning Opportunity (see above), 25 representatives from Civil Society took part in a training workshop on the Linking Local Learners Internet Learning Support Service. This internet service supports groups of local learners from around the world to share both their expertise and their challenges in a community of practice. Diverse groups pool their knowledge together to help each other produce new ideas for progress in establishing farmer demand driven agricultural services, developing market chains from producers to consumers, sharing SARD local practices among civil society actors, among others. Individuals usually work together in learning groups which meet face-to-face. Each group acquires a mailing address and there after becomes a member of a learning team. The learning team is a network of different groups that work on the same subject and exchange ideas across distances. Each learning team may exchange knowledge on a range of different subjects. All learning teams together share the Knowledge Pool. This learning support service functions like any other website.

Reunión Empresarial de la Iniciativa ADRS

29-30 Octubre 2005, Roma, Italia. Seis de los ocho Puntos Focales de los Grupos Principales (representantes de las ONGs, Pueblos Indígenas, Agricultores, Juventud, Mujeres, Comunidad Científica y Tecnológica) y el equipo FAO de la Iniciativa ADRS se citó en Roma para la Reunión Empresarial de dicha Iniciativa ADRS. Este encuentro otorgó la oportunidad a los Grupos Principales para comprobar los logros de la Iniciativa ADRS en los últimos años y discutir sobre las prioridades y objetivos de los próximos doce meses.

World Food Day – Agriculture and Intercultural Dialogue

16 October 2005, Rome, Italy. The World Food Day theme for 2005 celebrated the contribution of cultural diversity to the fight against hunger which directly affects 850 million people in the world today. It also promoted the important link between agriculture and culture. Eve Crowley, Chapter 14 Task Manager and Facilitator of the SARD Initiative, gave a World Food Day Speech on the theme "Where would be Agriculture without a Culture" in Cuneo (Friday 14 October), Florence (Sunday 16th October), Venice (Monday 17th October), and Rome (Thursday 1st December).

Informe conjunto FAO/OIT/UITA sobre trabajadores agrícolas y su contribución a la agricultura y al desarrollo rural sostenibles

Un informe conjunto publicado por la Organización para la Agricultura y la Alimentación (FAO), la Organización Mundial del Trabajo (OIT) y la Unión Internacional de Trabajadores de la Alimentación, Agrícolas, Hoteles, Restaurantes, Tabaco y Afines (UITA), ha llamado la atención sobre la difícil situación de los 450 millones de trabajadores agrícolas asalariados que hay en el mundo. El informe detalla la naturaleza inestable y temporal de esta forma de empleo, así como los diversos aspectos que afectan a los trabajadores agrícolas, tales como bajos salarios, condiciones de trabajo riesgosas, trabajo infantil y falta de derechos humanos. El informe hace un llamado para desarrollar y promover un programa a favor de un trabajo agrícola en condiciones justas y decentes.

SARD Initiative Stakeholder Design Consultation at COAG 17

1 April 2003, Rome, Italy. The SARD Initiative Stakeholder Design Consultation took place as a Side Event at the 17th Session of the FAO Committee on Agriculture’s (COAG) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy in April 2003. The Consultation provided an opportunity for the different stakeholders to make suggestions as to the roles that participating Civil Society Organizations, Governments, and Intergovernmental Organizations should play in the SARD Initiative as well as how the SARD Initiative can best contribute to improved livelihoods of the rural poor and disadvantaged groups and to the achievement of the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation and the Millennium Development Goals.
