- How do households in the village make a living? How important is farming for households in the village?
- What different types of household are there in the village? What categories of divisions do people use to talk about differences between households?
- What proportion of households in the village are headed by women? (divorced or widowed)
- What are the main farming enterprises in the village?
- What land tenure arrangements are there in the village? How do people get land for farming?
- Are there any differences in the roles of men and of women in farming?
- What are the labour arrangements for farming? Do households use only their own family labour, or do they hire labour? (Which households hire labour? where does the hired labour come from?)
- In case of drought, how do households manage?
- What is the trend for young people in the village? Are they taking up farming and livestock?
- Is the pattern of age of people in the community changing? Is the population getting older, on average?
- Is the size of the village population growing, or getting smaller?
- How is the physical environment of the village, and the surrounding area, changing?
