June 2004 Announcement of a publication HIV/AIDS, gender inequality and rural livelihoodsThe impact of HIV/AIDS on rural livelihoods in Northern Province, Zambia
FAO, in close collaboration with Development Cooperation Ireland (DCI) and the Government of Zambia, has recently completed a household livelihood research among 740 households in the Northern Province of Zambia. The research aimed at gaining a better understanding of the dynamics in assets and livelihood strategies that are induced by the presence of HIV/AIDS and at identifying appropriate livelihood interventions for HIV/AIDS affected and vulnerable households. The HIV/AIDS, Gender Inequality and Rural Livelihoods report summarises the findings of the research and includes qualitative and quantitative information on macro-factors influencing livelihoods in Northern Province, asset dynamics, household livelihood strategies and livelihood outcomes for different household categories.
