The relationship between development and population movement is also studied to identify development strategies which could inadvertently facilitate the spread of HIV and may require revision to reduce HIV vulnerability.

Gender and development: Why do we still have problems in population programmes after all these years?
The note looks at some of the current difficulties to address gender in development interventions and policy formulation and suggests a few operational lines of action. The task ahead is not a simple one, but it is nonetheless not insurmountable: collective work is needed at both conceptual and operational levels, integrated across sectors and institutions. If we want to create change, we must provide alternatives to the perceived benefits of th... more

The idea of involving men in the traditionally female-oriented reproductive health programmes is not new. However, relatively few activities have been actually carried out in this domain in spite of the importance of these to advance towards gender equality and to improve both men's and women's reproductive health. The workshop reported in this document focused on the operational as well as concep... more
