Special Meeting of Heads of State and Government of Small Island Developing States
Objective: Considered action proposals recommended by the Ministerial Event of 18 November and adopted a Declaration highlighting principles and actions of critical importance to SIDS. The outcomes, including endorsed project proposals, will be submitted by FAO to a donor meeting in January 2006.

Ministerial Round Table on Water and Agriculture in Africa, Near East and Small Island Developing States
Objective: Reviewed issues related to water management for agriculture in Africa, the Near East and the SIDS and helped shape strategies for enhanced FAO’s support to water-related activities in these regions. Discussions focused in particular on competition for water and the role of agriculture as well as water management options for poverty reduction. For discussion document, click here.

Special Ministerial Event on Food Security and Sustainable Development in Small Island Developing States
Objective: A follow up to the International Meeting of SIDS held in January 2005, seeking to examine FAO’s action in SIDS and the Mauritius Strategy to Further Implement the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of SIDS as it relates to agriculture, forestry and fisheries. It discussed issues related to food security, nutrition and environmental resilience and proposed concrete action.
