DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of the CGIAR Science Council (SC), and the direct supervision of an assigned Senior Officer (s) will provide technical support to the SC Secretariat, backstopping the technical activities of the Standing Panels of the SC; working groups and task forces. In particular will:

  • backstop the monitoring of global trends, scientific challenges and policy issues influencing agricultural research, production, trade, environment, markets and institutions, and specifically assist in the preparation of the State of World Science for Agriculture document;
  • assist in the preparation of terms of reference, case studies and guidelines for SC Secretariat technical activities;
  • backstop the organization of external reviews of CGIAR Centres;
  • draft/assist in preparation of SC technical reports;
  • design and prepare material and documents for technical meetings;
  • participate in the planning and organization of technical meetings, seminars and workshops;
  • liaise with other FAO units, CGIAR Centers, advanced research institutes, government institutions, international development agencies, NGOs and civil society organizations;
  • perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:

  • MSc in agriculture, agricultural or environmental economics or related natural or social sciences.

  • Five years of relevant experience in agricultural and rural development with particular emphasis on science and technology and environmental issues, including research work experience.  

  • Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of  one of the other two.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

  • Level and relevance of academic and work experience qualifications.
  • Ability to analyse technical and scientific information.
  • Extent of expertise in natural resource management, agriculture and rural development.
  • Relevance of experience in planning, implementing and coordinating research or development activities related to agricultural, environmental and rural issues.
  • Experience in organizing technical meetings.
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports.

Please note that all candidates should possess computer/word processing skills and should be capable of working with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

REMUNERATION

Level P-3 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 71 832 to US$ 92 442 (without dependants) and from US$ 74087 to US$ 99 383 (with dependants)
