| Duties and responsibilities Under
the overall supervision of the Chief, Basic Foodstuffs Service, ESCB and
the direct supervision of the Senior Commodity Specialist, will:
Supervise and coordinate the collection, evaluation and
computerization of data;
Undertake economic research work and analysis on developments in
production, trade, consumption and prices and on national and
international policies;
Participate in economic research projects on commodities, including
long-term projections of supply, demand and trade, national and
international policy issues;
Prepare advance drafts of notes and documents for publication;
Assist in servicing Intergovernmental Group meetings;
Assist in implementation of technical assistance projects;
Administer and promote a commodity market information exchange
network;
Represent FAO at commodity meetings;
Perform other related duties as required. |
Qualifications and experience -
Essential First University Degree in Economics or Agricultural
Economics or a Phd or equivalent Degree in Economics or Agricultural
Economics
Three years of progressively responsible professional experience in
economic research and analysis, preferably in commodity analysis.
Experience in computer applications. A Phd degree in Economics may
substitute for three years of the required experience.
Working knowledge (level C) of English, French or Spanish and limited
knowledge (level B) of one of the other two.
Ability to draft clearly and concisely on economic and related
matters. Initiative and critical judgement. Ability to work within
deadlines. Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with
trade and professional associations. Computer literacy and ability to
use effectively word processing and office automation equipment.
Courtesy, tact and ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with people of different national and cultural
backgrounds.
Qualifications and experience - Desirable
Knowledge of economic and policy aspects of production, consumption
and trade of agricultural commodities, in particular rice. Experience in
economic and food security problems of developing countries. Limited
knowledge (level B) of the third language shown above and/or other
languages. Experience in econometric techniques and modelling. |
