DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Basic Foodstuffs Service and the direct supervision of a Senior Commodity Specialist, will:

  • monitor and undertake economic analysis of agricultural commodity markets, including developments in production, trade, consumption, prices and national and international policies;
  • participate in economic research on agricultural commodities, including national and international policy issues, long-term outlook on supply, demand and trade;
  • participate in the collection, evaluation, updating and dissemination of information on agricultural commodity markets; manage commodity databases;
  • prepare drafts of notes and documents for publication;
  • participate in the implementation of technical assistance and commodity development projects;
  • contribute to the preparation of and provide secretariat support to the servicing of Intergovernmental Group meetings;
  • perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:

  • University Degree in Economics or Agricultural Economics
  • Three years of professional experience in economic research and analysis with regard to international commodity markets (M.Sc or equivalent postgraduate degree in the above fields may be substituted for one year of the required experience; Ph.D or equivalent degree may be substituted for two years of required experience)
  • Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

  • Extent of knowledge of economic aspects of production, consumption and trade issues related to agricultural commodities
  • Ability to prepare draft reports and articles for publication and make presentations related to economic issues
  • Communication and analytical skills
  • Relevance of experience in using computer applications for statistical/econometric work
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a team

Please note that all candidates should possess computer/word processing skills and should be capable of working with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

REMUNERATION

Level P-2 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$52,530 to US$64, 581 (without dependents) and from US$56,004 to US$69,211 (with dependants).
