DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general guidance of the Chief, WAICENT/INFO Dissemination Management Branch (GILW) and the supervision of the Information Systems Officer (AGRIS/CARIS and Documentation Group) will be responsible for the production and maintenance of metadata on FAO and other information objects. Specifically will:

  • set up and ensure efficient workflows for the timely cataloguing and indexing of FAO’s technical information products;
  • catalogue and index information material for the FAO metadata repositories;
  • investigate the evolution of metadata schemas and adapt FAO’s metadata schemas to the state of the art development;
  • evaluate search interfaces and strategies and design requirements for search engines;
  • organize the maintenance of reference material (schemas, vocabularies) pertinent to FAO’s metadata;
  • participate in international conferences and working groups for the further development of metadata schemas;
  • participate in the development and maintenance of corporate information management guidelines and policies;
  • assist in the testing, implementation and management of new documentation application software tools and operating procedures to be used for information organization and description;
  • perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:

  • University Degree in Information Science, Library Sciences, Agriculture or in another field related to the activities of the Organization
  • Five years of relevant experience in electronic information systems and services related to use and production of metadata
  • Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge one of the other two

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

  • Depth of knowledge of metadata standards, metadata schemas and subject ontologies
  • Relevance of experience in cataloguing/indexing of technical and scientific information in the management of bibliographical databases
  • Extent of working experience with information retrieval systems using Internet Technologies
  • Proven contributions in exploring and adapting new technologies ad methodologies in information management
  • Initiative, high sense of responsibility, ability to plan and organise work
  • Ability to collate, analyse and evaluate complex technical issues
  • Communication skills both orally and written

Please note that all candidates should possess computer/word processing skills and should be capable of working with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

REMUNERATION

Level P-3 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 68 697 US$ 88 406 (without dependants) and from US$ 70 853 to US$ 95 045 (with dependants)
