DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Publishing Management Branch and the direct supervision of the Editorial Project Manager, will implement and manage related projects for the Organization’s major print and electronic information products. Specifically will:- In close collaboration with Editorial Project Officers, prepare and present design proposals and produce high-profile information products including flagships, periodicals, high-profile policy and technical series;
- Carry out appropriate version control, providing final output in the required file formats and standards. Archive all files on project completion and contribute to improvements in archiving systems for storage and reuse;
- In consultation with supervisor and project team members, set project production priorities and schedules, coordinating with editorial team members and the Publishing Production group and ensure that records are maintained;
- Develop and maintain appropriate corporate visual standards for FAO information products; manage the development of brand guidelines, generic graphic styles and the production of templates for client use through all stages of production, advising and training prospective users;
- Advise client divisions on appropriate graphic options, creative solutions and feasible production options available within specified resources;
- In consultation with appropriate units (e.g. Publishing Production group, WAICENT/FAOINFO Dissemination Branch), develop and maintain standard technical specifications for the efficient production and reversioning of information products;
- Estimate resource time required and manage the delivery of graphic work delegated to other media specialists or outsourced to external contractors; for outsourced work, establish cost estimates, monitoring quality and delivery against specification;
- Make recommendations for keeping design projects and production methods at the highest level in terms of quality, creativity, technology and cost effectiveness; stay abreast of technological and process changes, evaluating new products and advising on appropriate IT strategies in support of the Group’s integrated publishing function and related normative activities;
- Perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
|
- University Degree in Fine or Applied Arts or Graphics or equivalent diploma from a recognized art school
- Five years of relevant experience in publishing design in a publishing house or comparable organization
- Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two languages

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:
|
- Extent of knowledge of current publishing technology and design processes
- Extent of experience in both high-quality colour print production, using lead industry-standard software packages, and of electronic publishing production
- Extent of knowledge of the interrelationship between editorial and production technologies
- Ability to work as a member of a publishing team in producing complex, multilingual products
- Relevance of experience in developing, presenting and implementing corporate graphic/design standards and publishing tools
- Extent of experience in planning and managing publishing design projects, including sourcing and managing external consultants and services

Level P-3
carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 74,148
US$ 95,422
(without dependants) and from US$ 76,475
to US$ 102,587
