DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Animal Production Service, will be responsible for activities related to all aspects of animal genetic resources (AnGR) management. Specifically will: - implement AnGR activities, providing support to countries in implementing the Global Strategy for the Management of Farm Animal Genetic Resources and developing policies and regulations on the use and management of AnGR, in line with relevant international protocols and conventions;
- assess needs and define type of possible international multilateral agreement(s), Codes of Conduct, guidelines, on policy matters related to animal genetic resources;
- advise Members Countries on formulating and implementing their livestock development policies and programmes as they relate to in-situ and ex-situ conservation of AnGR; provide support to FAO’s Field Programme in animal genetic resources management;
- develop programmes to facilitate the effective supply of inputs and services to enable more efficient management of animal genetic resources;
- contribute to and participate in the work of FAO’s interdisciplinary programmes, international and regional institutions, NGO networks and producer organisations relative to AnGR;
- keep up-to-date on relevant developments in the area of AnGR and undertake analytical studies on specific technical and policy issues affecting animal genetic resources management;
- organize and conduct scientific and technical meetings; prepare and edit reports, manuals, guidelines and other specialized publications concerning the above;
- cooperate with national institutions in planning/establishing training, extension, research and human resources development programmes for the genetic resources sector;
- contribute to the divisional livestock information systems through the collection and analysis of appropriate data;
- perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
|
- Advanced University Degree in Animal Production, with specialisation in Animal Breeding
- Ten years of relevant experience in animal genetic resources management including experience in a diverse range of developing countries or countries in transition
- Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

- Level Extent and relevance of experience in animal genetic resources
management in different regions of the world
- Relevance and level of academic qualifications
- Extent of knowledge of and experience in the relevant international
protocols and conventions governing management of animal genetic resources
- Extent and relevance of experience of other aspects of livestock
development in developing countries
- Knowledge and experience of project formulation and funding requirements
of major multilateral and bilateral funding agencies
- Extent of experience in institution and capacity building in the livestock
sector
- Quality of both oral and written communication skills on technical issues,
in English

REMUNERATION
|
Level P-5 carries a net salary
per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 104 255
to US$ 122 863 (without dependants) and from US$ 112 223 to US$ 133 326 (with
dependants)
