DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of the Chief, Socio-Economic Statistics and Analysis Service, will plan, implement and supervise activities relating to agricultural resources, prices, investment and economic accounts for agriculture. Specifically will: - supervise the planning and execution of the programme in economic statistics, comprising the full range of activities leading to the collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of data on an international basis;
- develop concepts, definitions and statistical methods relating to the preparation of economic accounts for agriculture;
- supervise the maintenance of the data bases relating to macro-economic aggregates, investment and government expenditures in agriculture and development assistance funding to agriculture;
- plan, guide and supervise the activities relating to the compilation, evaluation and processing of statistics pertaining to agricultural prices and resources (land, fertilizers, machinery, etc.);
- develop environmental indicators associated with agricultural inputs and land use and promote liaison and coordination with other FAO units and international organizations in these fields;
- prepare articles, technical papers and training material on the various subjects;
- plan and supervise statistical capacity building activities in the field of agricultural economic statistics;
- plan and supervise the preparation of and conduct international meetings, associate with working groups or workshops and represent FAO at intergovernmental and other meetings;
- perform other related activities as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
|
- Advanced University Degree in Statistics or in Economics supplemented by training in advanced quantitative methods
- Ten years of relevant experience with national or international organizations in the compilation and analysis of a wide range of economic statistics related to the agriculture sector
- Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two languages

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

- Extent of experience in the compilation and analysis of economic statistics
- Relevance of academic background and training
- Depth of knowledge of the system of economic accounts
- Breadth of management experience
- Extent of language skills
- Extent of experience in the use of computers for the processing and analysis of statistical information
- Quality of oral, written and analytical skills on technical issues

Please note that all candidates should possess computer/word processing skills and should be capable of working with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 104 255
